Endodontics
Endodontics is a specialty in dentistry dealing with dental pulp "nerve" which is the most common cause of tooth pain. The dental pulp causes pain when it becomes infected with bacteria coming from nearby untreated caries. Once infected the dental pulp must be removed and its space cleaned and shaped to receive a specially designed filling for that place. The filling material must fill the entire length of the space previously occupied by the nerve.
Another need of root canal therapy is the pulp death. Untreated damaged pulp end up with pulp death, what cause infection of the bone around the root of the tooth causing abscess formation. Root canal treatment is indicated to clean the space occupied by the dead pulp to allow the body defense to get over that abscess.
