Knee Replacement
Knee replacement is a surgical procedure performed to replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee joint to relieve the pain and disability most commonly caused by osteoarthritis. During the surgery, the damaged joint surfaces are removed and replaced with low friction metal and plastic components that mimic functions of the knee. This procedure is nowadays considered as a gold standard in orthopedic surgery. Surgery involves vigorous physical rehabilitation and a recovery period of 4-6 weeks is usual.
